Great Expectations
It's that time of year again, folks...
Yep... St. Valentine's Day is in our face in FULL effect. All around the world, people are preparing to commemorate the celebration of love and affection between one another. Every year, we find ourselves trying to do things a little bigger & better than the year before.... A few more flowers, shinier jewels, extravagant date nights & planned surprises... Awwwwwwww... How precious! You'd think so, huh???
The fact of the matter is that buy the end of the day, a million break-ups will have taken place, hundreds of husbands will have been cursed out, and a-whole-lota feelings are going to be hurt. Why?!?!?! GREAT EXPECTIONS... They'll do it to you EVERY TIME... Valentine's Day puts people in this "fantasy" world where anything is possible. We think to ourselves, "If my mate isn't all that romantic on a regular day, then SURELY they'll pull out all the stops for this special day." Ummph... Sounds good... Some folks just don't have it in them, ya'll.
Before you get it in your head that your significant other is going to charter a G-5 and fly you over a private island while eating a 5-course meal with a violinist playing away in the background, come back down & join us here on Earth. I'm sure someone somewhere is going to be doing that, but if it's not you, don't lose it... LoL... This day is about LOVE, not loving what folks give you or do for you.
I don't know about YOU, but I don't see anything wrong with having two Valentine's for this special day... Your sigficant other AND yourself... BE YOUR OWN VALENTINE!!!! Reflect over how much you love yourself & how BLESSED you are to be alive & able to love others. See, even if the hubs doesn't come through with a fabulous gift (which he always does), I can still give the gift that keeps on giving: Self-love.
Use this special holiday to upgrade your level of love... For yourself as well as others...
